Books I have read in 2008
Jan 15, 2008* - EAT - PRAY -LOVE by Elizabeth Gilbert. One woman's search for everything across Italy, India and Indonesia.
I learned alot from this book. Having completed the book while I was in India, it taught me alot about the customs of the people here in India. Being in India is like going back 100 years. From riding in rickshaws to the cows and monkey on the street, it is a privilege for me to be able to travel to this country and enjoy the people and their culture. As I read I had empathy for her search and travels across this beautiful yet poor country. The ways of the people are to be admired. Yet, I feel guilty to go back to American with all the comforts and traffic signals. My most heart sickening thing was the kids, from the ones that beg on street corners to the bare bottomed ones that play in the dirt at construction sites while their mothers work.
Elizabeth Gilbert's personal journey to find her "love of self" was fascinating, but not all of us have that luxury in life. I also had empathy for her personal journey, being divorced and total lost, I had to struggle with 3 kids to find my place in the world. Reading about Elizabeth's journey was fun to read what she had to go thru to find her "love for self". I have found "love for self", it took alot longer and the journey was not near as fun to read about. And now I am in India enjoying everything that this life has layed at my feet.
Jan 31, 2008* - FOREVER ODD by Dean Koontz. Just started this mystery January 1, 2008 bought the book in the Chicago airport, and finished January 31st.
This was a mystery book that took several turns that you would not be expecting. The "I see dead people" was fun in this book. For Odd lives always between two worlds in the small desert town of Pico Mundo, where the heroic and the harrowing are everyday events. Odd never asked to communicate with the dead - it's something that just happened.
A childhood friend of Odd's has disappeared. The worst is feared. But as Odd applies his unique talents to the task of finding the missing person, he discovers something worse than a dead body, encounters an enemy of exceptional cunning, and spirals into a vortex of terror.

Feb 5, 2008* - SECOND HONEYMOON by Joanna Trollope I have been doing alot of reading in India, on a trip to Reliance Mart at Iscon Mall, I found one of my favorite authors, Joanna Trollope I was really excited, she is very hard to find in the USA. Didn't take me long to read the book that Joanna writes about "The Boyd family and the empty nest, style". I started to read on February 1st finished this book within 5 days.
Joanna doesn't put hot throbbing scenes in her books, I don't like to read books that have so much hot throbbing scenes that it takes over the book, I much prefer a good story.
Feb. 20, 2008* - MIDNIGHT BAYOU by Nora Roberts Nora is one of my favorite authors, Her stories start out in the turn of the century with true love and a death. Then you go to current dates and there is a ghost in the house. Nora Roberts did not let me down in this book. The sitting is in a large plantation outside of New Orleans, a town that I love, It starts in Dec 1899 with a young bride, Abigail, who had just given birth to a baby girl. She is killed by the twin brother of her husband. Then it switches to January 2002 when a young man, Declan, from Boston buys the house and finds that Abigail is still there. Declan meets his true love, Lena, who is the a descendant to Abigail.
Nora does put some hot throbbing scenes in her books. They are strategically inserted in just the right places and add just enough that I don't mind speed reading thru them.

March 15, 2008* - WHATEVER HAPPENED TO MOLLY MURPHY'S by Jeffiee Tayar
For 20 years, Molly Murphy's House of Fine Repute was the place to go and celebrate special occasions or just have a fun night out. I worked there in 1992. Bobby Tayar was the manager at that time. It was a crazy place to work. So I was really glad that I could read about what happened to Bob Tayar. Since I was there and experienced the fall of Molly Murphy's.

I believe that everyone, myself included, is responsible for evrything in our lives, the best and the worst. She was a little over the top on "We choose our parents." as a baby when we are ready to come into this world, we choose our parents. I am a little confused on this and would love to read some more on this subject.
