Top 10 Reasons Why People Do Not Eat Healthfully
- They associate calorie-consuming foods like chocolate cake with
great taste.
To lose weight, change your associations with cake. Begin to
think of fat to your thighs when you see chocolate cake. Picture
eating mountains of cake and then vomiting the cake. Think about how
droopy and tired you feel after eating the cake, and picture cake as a
sleeping pill.
- They eat out of boredom or because food is the only thing they
look forward to.
To lose weight, find something else to do when you have an urge
to eat - Read a book, write a letter, walk around the block, join a
club, start a craft, open your own business, call a friend, play
solitaire, take three deep breaths before reaching for the cake, swing
on the swings, skip, color, or lay on the hammock with music blaring -
JUST DO SOMETHING, and find something each day that you look forward
to doing, besides eating!
- They have no purpose to their life.
When you have a mission statement for your life that truly
jazzes you,
you are less likely to eat poorly and more likely to do things that
serve your mission statement. So write down what your purpose in life
is - write your personal mission statement. Then take action to
achieve that mission, and try to ensure that 85% of your day is spent
pursuing your mission.
- They use negative words and thought.
Keep saying I can't lose weight or this program won't work, and
you will prove that you are right. Start affirming that you can lose
weight, be healthy and svelte and gorgeous, and you will lose weight.
Better yet, say I am thin and gorgeous and healthy, and you will live
that way!
- They do not truly see the pain they are bringing to their lives
by eating poorly.
Not only is eating poorly bad for your health, but it drags you
down and makes it hard to live with zest and joy! Imagine what your
life would like be if you lived overweight and unhealthy for the next
5, 10, 15 years - really picture it - do you sit around and watch TV
all day, never going out and dying a slow death? Do you pass on
terrible habits to your children who are doomed to live the same way
you have lived? Is that how you want to live?
- They do not truly see the pleasure they would receive if they ate
and lived a healthy life.
Imagine how wonderful you will feel when you are healthy and
fit - see what you would do - would you date more, join more clubs,
play tennis, sit on the beach proudly wearing a bathing suit? Imagine
how proud you would be if you were healthy and trim - see the
wonderful habits of health that you bring your children. Isn't this
better than how it was in #5?
- They do not realize what they are eating every day.
Keep a diary of every single thing you put in your mouth for
one week. You will be shocked at the small things you eat that add up
to wasted calories and added pounds.
- Somewhere deep down, they believe they cannot be healthy, because
they have failed so many times in the past and/or been told that they
cannot do it.
Each of you has the capacity right now to be healthy. Your past
does not have to create your future and you can live a healthy life
for the rest of your life. Indeed, there is no reason why you cannot
be healthy right now - NONE! So, quit the beliefs that you cannot do
it and quit the excuses! You absolutely can do it! Set your own
beliefs, be your own voice! You can do it! You can be healthy and/or
lose weight!
- They do not resolve to lose weight.
You know you "want to lose weight," but until it is a
resolution and a promise, you will not put all of your efforts into
losing weight and being healthy! So today, right now, resolve that you
will become healthy! Say it: "I resolve to be healthy," "I resolve to
be svelte, fit and trim," "I resolve to live the life of my dreams!"
Then, keep repeating your resolutions every day - post them on your
walls, and keep them in your journal. You will be amazed at the power
that you gain and the changes that begin to happen, almost magically,
in your life.
- They do not put their goals, resolutions and mission first!
When faced with the prospect of eating your friends' birthday
cake, instead of doing it because everyone else is doing it, ask
yourself, would eating this further or hurt my resolution to lose
weight? Maybe your answer is that it will hurt your resolution, but
maybe you state "I am going to eat it anyway and then walk more on the
treadmill" - that is okay! Maybe you will eat it anyway, and say
forget my mission to be healthy! OR maybe you won't eat it all. But,
if you ask yourself first whether the action you are about to take
would serve your purpose, chances are more likely that you will choose
not to eat the cake or make compromises elsewhere to keep your
resolution. So, always ask yourself: Does this serve my purpose or
resolution? ALWAYS. Only then, can you make an informed decision!
