Cooking Fire Safety
Since more fires begin in the kitchen than any other room in the house, I thought it would be a good idea to review the recipe for mimimizing the risk of a kitchen fire.
- Never leave cooking unattended.
- If you must leave the kitchen, turn OFF the burner.
- Keep your stovetop and cooking area clean and free of combustibles
- Such as potholders, towels and curtains
- Always clean appliances after cooking to prevent grease build-up
- Keep the lid for the pan inwhich you are cooking handy
- If a fire start in the pan, slide the lid on and turn off the burner.
- Don't ever try to carry a pan with burning grease to the sink or outside
- Practice fire safety techniques with children
- Never leave them to cook in the kitchen without the suervision of an adult.
