Holidays - 2006

    COLORADO

    Bob had a conference in Denver, CO.
    We took off Tuesday, Sept 26th and drove to Salina KS.
    We then arrived in Denver on Sept 27th about 5:00 pm. Drove downtown to find the hotel where the conference was being held. They have 1 1/2 miles of shopping with free buses going up and down the 1 1/2 miles.

    After the conference we then drove to Colorado Springs. It was a beautiful city. We stayed at the "Garden of the Gods" Camp Grounds and visited all of the great sites.

  • We took the COG up the south side of Pikes Peak on Friday and then on Saturday we drove up the north side. The trees were turning all the fall colors and it was GREAT. I need oxygen when I got to the top, but it was all worth it.
  • We took in the The Manitou Cliff Dwellings is a rare historical treasure.
  • We went to an old hotel and took in a very comical melodrama. It was a very pleasant evening.
  • Bob climbed all 224 steps of the Seven Falls

    CHICAGO

    We went to Chicago, because Bob saw a TV show that was on hotdogs. They said that the best hotdog was Superdawg. So we called Ben in Tulsa and we took off for the best hotdog. It took us several busses to get there, but YES it was a really GOOD hotdog.

    We lived in Chicago for several years, we enjoyed some of our old stomping grounds and we ate at the "DINER" on Irving park where we lived next door to. It's still the same.

    The 24-hour railroad car diner is a thriving post-bar mecca. The house specialty, a $7 concoction called The Slinger, features hash browns, a couple of cheeseburger patties, grilled onions, and a few eggs with chili poured over the top. Expect nice 'n thick shakes and nifty old portable jukeboxes on the counter.

    Some restaurants that we enjoyed were gone, but we did find plenty to eat.

    We went to see Blue Man Group Again. It was the first time for Ben and he really loved it.

    We traveled on to NYC and enjoyed everything about the city.
