- Special K Challenge
- The American market is looking for a way to change its customers’ diet habits. From meal replacement bars to low-carb diet crazes, there’s always something trying to break through with the “next big thing” in dieting, but rarely does it become more than a simple phase. The Special K Diet may fit well into this category, essentially suggesting cereal for two meals a day. While there are worse things (like fast food) for meals, the Special K Diet does not stand out from the crowd of diet solutions trying to stay above water on today’s oversaturated market, although the use of Special K does add a good amount of fiber to the diet, making it more nutritious than many other solutions.

- Fiber
- Fiber falls into two general categories: water-soluble (found mostly in oats, fruit, and legumes) and water-insoluble (found mostly in grains and vegetables). As each type of fiber has different benefits, most people on high-fiber diets are advised to increase their intake of foods that feature both soluble and insoluble fiber. High-fiber diets are also beneficial for certain gastrointestinal conditions.
Fiber slows the movement of food and acidic fluid from the stomach to the intestines. It may help people with duodenal ulcers by reducing the exposure of the small intestine to stomach acids. Diverticular disease has become increasingly common and is thought to be due primarily to the consumption of a low-fiber diet. Diets high in fiber have consequently been shown to protect against diverticular disease.

MY DIET
The only way that you can lose weight is eat less and exercise more. NO MATTER WHAT DIET!
Everybody has a story. Growing up I was never a skinny kids. But looking back, In the 8th grade (which would have made me 15 years old) I don't think that I should have been told by the coaches daughter, Jeri Hannah: "My mother says that you are a big fat slob". That has stuck with me all these years. I can still see her face. I cried and I can still feel the hurt. She wasn't that THIN herself. She probably doesn't even remember me. But left me scared for life.
So I went on with my life, marred, scared and very unhappy with the way that I looked. Marriage then after 4 full term pregnancies, 1 still born son and 2 miscarriages. I was up to 180 pounds. I made a bet with my husband "If I would get down to 120 pounds that he would buy me a BRAND NEW Corvette". On my 30th birthday, 1981, I drove that BRAND NEW Corvette off the showroom floor, with the help of WeightWatchers, friends, supportive family and a swimming pool in the back yard. I held that weight for 10 years. Being a size 6 and running around in a corvette can be a whole lot of fun. First marriage ended and life began again.
Slowly by 2000 I was at my heaviest tipping the scale at 226. On my second husband, we owned a Pizza restaurant which accounts for alot of the 226 pounds. Delivery guys all out on deliveries and a pizza order came in for a pepperoni pizza. It was just a block away at a bar, we had been in there many times so off I go. Carrying in the pizza and getting my money, as I turned to leave a drunk SOB said "Looks like you have eaten a few too many pizzas." I should have hit him, but I left, I went straight home screaming and got in bed and cried for hours. I am still crying as I write this. So I guess that was my bottom.
In 2003 I was weighing 213 pounds and we went to the state fair and there was a booth taking blood pressures. It was extremely high and they signed me up for testing group for a new blood pressure medicine. I got paid and got a really good check up. Then the testing was over and no doctor to get more meds I pretty much just ignored it, until I went to a doctor about female problems and he walked me over to the OU medical clinic and then I started seeing a doctor regularly for high blood pressure.
By 2004 I was down 12.4 pounds to 195 pounds. We had taken up camping. In September we were at Lake Texohoma and I was so extremely thirsty. I just couldn't get enough to drink. In Oct 2004 I was diagnosed with diabetes. Doctors are after me to lose the weight. It's a lot harder this time. Metabolism, menopause and just down right hungry makes it really hard to lose the weight. We bought a treadmill and weight machine. I know that it has kept me from gaining MORE.
2006 I was down to 181. It was great. But then I just can't stop eating.
Losing weight is the hardest thing that you have to do. Blood pressure, the doctor prescribes a pill. Diabetis, the doctor prescribes a pill. But you have to work at losing the weight, everyday. You can stop smoking and don't have to look at another cigarette. BUT EATING, you have to do everyday, 3 and 4 times a day. Choices, they are your choices, but such a battle constantly.
- I do great for breakfast - fiber, fruit, yogurt
- Lunch pretty good - small meal of salad, fruit
- Super Not so Good - salad, meat and vegetable
- Late night - MY PROBLEM I just want something
December 2007 after Thanksgiving and Christmas I was back up to 200. My excuse is "traveling to India for 2 months". See I also thought it was my husbands fault that I weighed so much. We go out to eat alot. I had to fix more food for him. He likes my pies! I make a world famous Carrot Cake! But when he stayed in India for another 2 months, I learned that it was not him that was putting food in my mouth.
Today May 14th 2008 I am at 189. I have changed the way that I eat. I want to live longer. I walk on the tread mill for 40 mintes and do 50 of each of my weight exercises. I try to get down on the floor and do sit ups. But that is still a tough one.
